Review
I have been shooting the new 2010 Mathews Z7 for 5 months now and very
very impressed. I did not arrive on buying the Z7 easily. I shot ever
new 2010 bow on the market and kept coming back to the Mathews Z7. I
have included my likes and dislikes of this bow.

Feel: Over all feel of the bow was balances with a slight roll forward.
The grip was slimer then past years but I did upgrade to the focus
grip and improved the grip IMHO 100 percent. Bow holds great on target
and is easy to shoot accurate.
Bow does not feel like a 30″ axle to axle bow.

Draw Cycle: Draw cycle is firm but very smooth. There is no harsh bump
and the valley and the back wall is solid.

Recoil or Vibration: The bow is dead in the hand. I can detect no
vibration after the shot and the bow has little bump at the shot. I
shot the bow with and without the monkey tails and could actually tell
very little difference.

Sound: This bow is QUIET. I am sure this is due to the past parallel
limbs. Bow shot very quiet with light arrows and was whisper quiet
with my 456 grain hunting arrows.

Speed: I was impressed with the speed on this bow. I shot my hunting
setup through a chrono and got the following results.

Easton ACC Pro Hunter 300 cut to 29″ from my bow set at 29″ draw and
70 lbs shot 3 shots one after another at 283 fps. Which translates to
81 lbs if K.E.

Negatives:
There are very very little things negative reguarding this
bow.

The first would be the Monkey tails that do not last very long at all.
But easy to replace with limb savers or nothing at all. This bow is
quiet without.

The second and final negative and some people will not find this as a
negative at all is the grip. I am not a fan of the wood grip and felt
as if I need to think more about the grip during the shot preperation.
However this is easily fixed with the new Focus grip by Mathews which
I found to be one of the best grips I have shot to date.

In conclusion after shooting all of the 2010 bows on the market and
after a few months of shooting this bow I feel the new Z7 is one of
the best shooting bows on the market and for sure the best shooting
short ATA bow I have ever shot. I am thinking about shooting one for
3D as well. I would have never considered a 30″ ata bow for 3D before
the Z7. In my honest opinion Mathews has a winner with the Z7
